Solar Energy

There’s nothing that announces springtime any better than a good swarm of wood ants. The ants leave the safety of their colony to warm themselves in the first warm sunshine of spring, after spending the winter underground. Wood ants have an interesting system of bringing that solar energy into the ant hill. They will take turns warming themselves up on the surface and then move back into the cold ground taking the sun’s warmth into the anthill. A kind of central heating system with a sun collector on the roof.

Zon energie

Voor mij is de eerste voorjaarsbode de rode bosmier. Wanneer ze zich opwarmen aan de eerste voorjaarszon is de lente pas echt aangebroken. Bosmieren hebben een vernuftig systeem om de nest op te warmen. Ze verlaten gedeeltelijk de veiligheid van de mierenhoop en warmen zich op. Zodra ze genoeg opgewarmd zijn gaat een deel van de mieren weer onder de grond en brengt zo warmte in de mierenhoop. Een soort centrale verwarming met zonnecollector op het dak.
