Autumn is a good time to go looking for mushrooms in the forest. However the dry dune grasslands can also be a good place to go after wet weather. These dry calcareous grasslands can be very rich in a certain group of (very colourful) mushrooms, the waxcaps. October was a very wet month in my part of the country (more than 90mm! in 24 hours). Needless to say the dunes are alive with mushrooms.

Herfst is altijd een goede tijd om het bos in te gaan om paddenstoelen te zoeken. Maar voor mij zijn het de duingraslanden die de show stelen. Als het nat genoeg is dan verschijnen hier de orchideeën onder de paddenstoelen, de wasplaten. Deze glimmende, vaak fel gekleurde paddenstoelen verschenen na de hevige regens van oktober (meer dan 90mm in 24 uur!) massaal in de schrale duingraslanden in de duinen.
