Biomass

Tidal mudflats are among the ecosystems with highest primary production, comparable to tropical rainforests! Here are 3 examples of animal masses along the Oosterschelde National Park in the Netherlands. The mudflats are teeming with life! Marine springtails, mud snail shells (up to 200.000 individuals per m2 tidal mudflat!) and bar-tailed godwits.

Biomassa

Massa’s dieren langs de Oosterschelde klein en groot. Getijdengebieden behoren samen met tropisch regenwoud tot de meest productieve ecosystemen op aarde. Hier gebeurt het. Blauwe springstaarten, lege schelpen van wadslakjes (tot 200.000 dieren per m2 wad!) en duizenden rosse gruttos!
